Why there is no flat per-square-foot rate
Pakistani buyers ask one question more than any other: what is the per-square-foot price of an SMD screen? The answer everyone wants to hear is a single round number. The honest answer is that no responsible vendor can quote a useful per-sqft figure without knowing pixel pitch, total area, mounting, indoor or outdoor, brand tier, controller, and install access. The same square foot of LED can cost three times more or less depending on these inputs — and a flat number invariably hides which corners are being cut.
When a competitor advertises a flat per-sqft price on a billboard or a Facebook post, what is happening in the background is one of three things. They are quoting a base module-only price with no controller, structure, install, or warranty. They are using B-grade or refurbished modules where pixel binning has not been done. Or they are quoting a pitch and brand they will then "upgrade" to once you sign. None of these are scams in the legal sense — they are just incomplete quotes. The total bill at the end of the project lands much higher.
The remainder of this guide breaks down the actual cost drivers honestly, gives you realistic 2026 ranges in Pakistani Rupees per square foot for each common pixel pitch, and tells you what a complete quote should include line by line. You will not get a single magic number, but you will know enough to spot the difference between a real quote and a teaser quote on the day you compare three vendors side by side.
The seven cost components of any SMD screen project
Every SMD screen quote, no matter how it is presented, is built from the same seven cost components. Understanding each one lets you compare vendors on a like-for-like basis and tells you immediately what is missing from a too-good-to-be-true offer.
- Modules: the front-loaded LED panels themselves. Priced per module unit and aggregated into per-sqft. Pixel pitch and brand tier dominate this line.
- Cabinets: the metal housing the modules sit in. Indoor cabinets are slim and front-serviceable; outdoor cabinets are sealed, IP65, and structurally reinforced. Cabinet quality is a real differentiator and a real cost.
- Controller and processor: the device that takes HDMI/DVI/SDI input from your laptop or media player and drives the wall. A 4K-capable processor with multi-input switching is a meaningful line item. Cheap controllers cap brightness, refresh, and resolution.
- Power and cabling: copper, breakers, distribution boxes, and a dedicated circuit if your existing supply cannot handle peak draw. A 5×3 m P2.5 wall draws 5–7 kW peak. This is real electrical work, not a phone-charger socket.
- Structure and mounting: wall-mount frame, hanging truss, ground stand, or custom steel reinforcement. Outdoor pole installations and high facade work add engineering and crane charges.
- Installation labour and calibration: trained LED technicians for cabinet alignment, seam matching, and brightness/white-balance calibration. Calibration is not optional — uncalibrated walls look patchy from week one.
- Warranty, spares, and ongoing support: tier-1 modules ship with 2-year warranty as standard. A small spare-module stock on-site keeps mean-time-to-repair under an hour. SLA contracts (4-hour or 24-hour response) are priced separately.
When you receive a quote, ask the vendor to itemise these seven lines. If any are missing, that is where the surprise cost is going to come from later. A complete quote is longer to read but shorter to argue about at handover.
Indoor SMD screen price ranges by pixel pitch (2026)
These ranges are realistic 2026 turnkey figures for projects in the 5 to 25 square-metre band, supplied and installed in major Pakistani cities, using tier-1 or strong tier-2 modules with proper controllers, mounting, and calibration. Below 5 sqm the per-sqft rate climbs because controllers and labour amortise across less area; above 25 sqm it falls slightly. PKR figures are indicative and assume current 2026 import duty and rupee dollar parity — get a written quote for your specific project.
- P0.9 to P1.2 indoor (control rooms, broadcast, premium boardrooms): the highest pixel density, used where viewers stand within 1 to 2 metres of the wall. Typical turnkey budget is in the higher brackets per sqft because of the dense LED count, careful binning, and high refresh-rate driver ICs required for camera-safe content. A 3×2 m wall lands in the multi-lakh range comfortably.
- P1.5 to P1.8 indoor (boardrooms, premium retail, NOC walls): the sweet spot for fine-pitch indoor where viewing distance is 2 to 3 metres. Per-sqft pricing is meaningfully lower than P1.2 but still a step above P2.5 because of the increased LED density and the slim front-serviceable cabinet design.
- P2.0 to P2.5 indoor (lobbies, conference rooms, retail, training rooms): the most-installed indoor pitch in Pakistan and the best value for typical commercial use cases. A standard 4×2.5 m P2.5 indoor wall is usually in mid-six-figure to low-seven-figure PKR territory turnkey, depending on cabinet brand, controller, and mounting.
- P3.0 to P4.0 indoor (auditoriums, large halls, worship spaces, far-viewing lobbies): cheapest indoor pitch per sqft because LED density drops sharply. Suitable when closest viewer distance is over 4 metres. Don't use P3 or P4 indoors where someone is going to read text from arm's length — pixels become visible.
A note on brand: tier-1 modules from Liangtronics, Unilumin, Absen, or Leyard typically command a 25 to 60 percent premium over strong tier-2 modules and a 2x premium over lowest-cost no-name modules. The premium buys better LED bin matching (no patchy panels), longer service life, faster spare-part availability, and a warranty that is actually honoured. For client-facing rooms, the tier-1 premium pays back in year one.
Outdoor SMD screen price ranges by pixel pitch (2026)
Outdoor pricing is structurally different from indoor. The cabinet is heavier (IP65-sealed, reinforced for wind load), the LEDs themselves are higher-brightness 5,500 to 10,000 nit bins, and a meaningful share of total project cost is civil and structural — pole, foundation, structural steel, and mounting hardware. For roadside billboards, expect civil and structural to be 25 to 45 percent of the all-in budget on top of the screen itself.
- P3 to P4 outdoor (premium roadside billboards, building-front displays at close vehicle speed): the sharpest outdoor option, used where the audience is within 8 to 15 metres. Per-sqft pricing sits at the upper end of outdoor ranges because of dense LED count and careful brightness binning.
- P5 to P6 outdoor (mid-range roadside, building facades, large LED bills 30 to 100 sqft): the most-installed outdoor pitch in Pakistan and usually the best value for vehicle-facing media. A 12×8 ft P6 outdoor billboard with civil and structure is often a low-seven-figure to mid-seven-figure PKR project depending on site access and pole height.
- P8 to P10 outdoor (large highway billboards, stadium fascia, far viewing): cheapest outdoor pitch per sqft because LED density drops sharply. Suitable for closest viewer distances of 20 metres or more. Big surface area for impact at low per-sqft cost.
Permitting and authority NOCs are real outdoor line items in Pakistan. PHA in Lahore, KMC in Karachi, MCI/CDA in Islamabad, and cantonment boards each have their own outdoor advertising approvals, fees, and ongoing taxes. Budget for both the one-time NOC fee and the recurring monthly or annual advertising tax. A reputable vendor includes these in the project plan, even if the fees themselves are paid by the operator on an ongoing basis.
Realistic 2026 budget brackets by use case
These are end-to-end PKR budget brackets for the most common SMDSOLUTIONS project types in 2026, including supply, structure, install, calibration, and a basic 2-year warranty. Brackets assume tier-1 or strong tier-2 modules. Use them to sanity check vendor quotes — anything significantly below the lower bracket is leaving real cost out of scope.
- Conference room / boardroom indoor wall, P2.5, 3×2 m: low-six-figure to mid-six-figure PKR turnkey for a tier-2 module, mid- to high-six-figure for tier-1.
- Hotel lobby or showroom feature wall, P1.8 or P2.0, 5×3 m: high-six-figure to low-seven-figure PKR turnkey, depending on brand and controller.
- Control or operations room, P1.2 or P1.5, 4×2 m: low-seven-figure PKR turnkey at tier-1, plus a higher-end processor capable of multi-source 4K.
- Conference hall or auditorium drop-down, P3 or P4, 6×3 m: mid-seven-figure PKR turnkey including truss, hoist, and content workflow.
- Roadside outdoor billboard, P6, 12×8 ft on a fabricated pole: mid- to high-seven-figure PKR turnkey including civil, pole, screen, controller, and basic NOC support.
- Building-facade outdoor display, P5 or P6, 20×10 ft: low-eight-figure PKR turnkey depending on facade access, structural reinforcement, and electrical scope.

How to buy an SMD screen without overspending
Match pixel pitch to actual viewing distance, not to ego. Going finer than necessary is money you cannot see on screen. P2.5 indoor in a meeting room is invisible to anyone over 2 metres away from a P1.5; the price difference is real. Likewise P5 outdoor at highway speeds is invisible to anyone driving past at 60 km/h from 30 metres; P3 is wasted.
Ask for the seven-line itemised quote. If a vendor cannot break their number into modules, cabinets, controller, structure, install, calibration, and warranty, the number is incomplete. That is fine — most quotes are — but it means you are not yet comparing like for like.
Don't cheap out on the controller or the structure. The temptation when negotiating is to ask the vendor to "drop the brand of the processor" or "use lighter steel". Those two cuts are where reliability comes from. Cut module brand tier or cabinet finish if you must; keep the controller and structure honest.
Negotiate on scope, not on quality. If the budget is tight, reduce screen size, drop pixel pitch by one band, or stage the project in phases. Don't accept a same-size, same-pitch wall for 30 percent less — that delta is coming out of LED bin quality, controller capability, or warranty.
Get the maintenance plan in writing on day one. Whether you self-service, retain SMDSOLUTIONS, or use someone else, agree the ongoing arrangement before the screen is mounted. Hardware warranty alone is not maintenance — you need quarterly recalibration, dust filter checks, and a fast-response path for dead modules.
