Summary

Dolmen Mall wanted an atrium video wall capable of running landlord brand content, tenant campaign rotations, and seasonal feature programming — all at scale, all visible from multiple floor levels. SMDSOLUTIONS specified P2.5 indoor SMD, installed under live mall trading conditions across night-only work windows, calibrated brightness against the atrium skylight wash, and integrated the wall with the mall content-management workflow.

The challenge

What the client needed.

  • Atrium daylight wash: the central atrium pulls hard daylight through the skylight. Standard 600-nit indoor walls look flat under that brightness.
  • Live mall trading: install windows were night-only, with hard cut-off times before the mall reopened for trade in the morning.
  • Multi-floor visibility: viewers see the wall from ground floor, mezzanine, and upper-floor balconies. Content has to read correctly across that range of viewing angles and distances.
  • Content workflow: landlord, tenant, and seasonal-programming teams all need scheduled access without stepping on each other.
  • Acoustic and brightness comfort: a wall this size in a public atrium cannot make customers uncomfortable through brightness or fan noise.

  • Wide viewing-angle calibration (160°/160°) so content reads correctly from ground floor and upper-floor balcony alike.
  • Cloud CMS with role-based publishing — landlord brand team, tenant operations, and seasonal programming each have their own permission scope and content folders.
  • Acoustic-rated fan curve and brightness-management automation keep the wall comfortable for shoppers throughout mall opening hours.

Atrium dimensions, skylight wash, viewing-angle envelope, structural mounting points, and content workflow surveyed.

PHASE 02

Engineering sign-off

Structural calculation for the atrium mount, power and signal routing, HVAC review for heat dissipation, and content workflow approved with the mall operations team.

PHASE 03

Pre-stage

Cabinets, processor, and structural mount fabricated and pre-tested at the SMDSOLUTIONS facility before the first night move.

PHASE 04

Night-window install

Nine consecutive nights of installation work with hard cut-off before morning trading. Daily clean-up to floor-ready condition each morning.

PHASE 05

Calibration

Brightness and viewing-angle calibration sweep performed after the full wall was mounted, against actual atrium skylight conditions at multiple times of day.

PHASE 06

CMS onboarding

Landlord, tenant, and seasonal-programming teams trained on the cloud CMS with their respective permission scopes.

  • Standard indoor SMD walls run at 600 to 800 nits brightness. Daylight pouring through an atrium skylight at midday can exceed that, washing out the content and making colours look pale and low-contrast. The solution is to pick a higher-brightness module bin (1,000 to 1,500 nits) and operate it at a calibrated brightness that beats the daylight wash. That is what we did at Dolmen Mall — 1,200 nit peak modules calibrated to 900 nit operating brightness.
