A curved SMD column and circular ceiling disc that turned the centre of the Sapphire flagship into a living artwork.

Flexible P1.8 indoor SMD wrapping a full-height cylindrical column at the centre of the Sapphire flagship cashier hub, paired with a curved circular SMD canopy mounted in the ceiling. Two synchronised surfaces playing one continuous floral / lily-pond brand film. Supplied, installed, and calibrated by SMDSOLUTIONS.

Summary

Sapphire wanted the central cashier island of its flagship Lahore store to feel like the visual anchor of the room — something that pulled customers in from anywhere on the floor and held their attention while queues moved. SMDSOLUTIONS specified, supplied, installed, and calibrated a two-surface SMD installation: a 360° curved cylindrical column wrapped in flexible P1.8 indoor modules, and a circular curved-edge SMD disc mounted directly above it on the ceiling. Both surfaces are colour-matched and content-synchronised, so the artwork flows from the disc down onto the column as a single visual.

The challenge

What the client needed.

  • Central island had to read as a brand artwork from anywhere on the retail floor — including from the entrance roughly 20 m away and the unstitched / women’s sections at close range.
  • Curved 360° column geometry meant rigid LED cabinets would leave visible seam steps. Standard flat-pack indoor cabinets were not an option.
  • Ceiling structure could only carry a constrained load — the circular ceiling disc had to land within a fixed weight envelope while still using fine-pitch modules at a viewing distance of 4 to 6 m.
  • Content had to flow continuously across the disc and the column as a single canvas, not two screens with a visible seam.
  • Surfaces sit directly above a working cashier line — heat, fan noise, and service access had to stay inside retail-tolerance limits during trading hours.
The solution

What we delivered.

  • Flexible P1.8 indoor SMD modules wrapping the full 360° of the central column with sub-millimetre seam alignment — no visible cabinet steps anywhere on the cylinder.
  • Circular curved-edge SMD ceiling disc built as a custom-cabinet ring driven from the same processor, mapped as the upper portion of a single content canvas with the column.
  • Single Novastar processor stack pixel-mapped across both surfaces, so brand content authored as one file plays continuously from the ceiling disc down onto the column.
  • Operating brightness held at 600 nits to keep colour accurate against the cream architectural finish and to manage heat dissipation directly above the cashier line.
  • Fan-curve tuned for retail acoustic envelope — service access through rear hatches on the column and removable ceiling-tile sections for the disc.
  • Floral / lily-pond launch content colour-matched on-site against the store’s lighting design so the artwork sits with the architectural palette, not against it.

Timeline

How the project actually ran.

PHASE 01

Site survey & creative alignment

Surveyed the central island geometry, ceiling load envelope, lighting design, and the creative team’s reference content. Agreed P1.8 flexible for the column and a custom curved-edge disc for the ceiling.

PHASE 02

Engineering sign-off

Structural calculation for the ceiling disc load, column wrap support structure, power and signal routing, and processor pixel-map plan signed off with the store-development team.

PHASE 03

Supply & pre-stage

Flexible modules, custom curved-edge cabinets for the disc, and processor stack assembled and tested at the SMDSOLUTIONS facility before the night-time site move.

PHASE 04

Install — column then disc

11-day on-site install during after-hours and closed-store windows. Column wrap completed first, ceiling disc mounted, then both wired into the shared processor.

PHASE 05

Calibration & content colour-match

2-day calibration sweep across both surfaces, then on-site colour-match of the floral brand content to the architectural cream finish with the creative team present.

PHASE 06

Hand-over & support

Store team trained on content scheduling and basic fault triage. On-site spare modules stocked. Service-access plan documented for both surfaces.

Outcomes

What changed after go-live.

Outcomes are stated as the client described them — we don't fabricate metrics, and we don't publish numbers a client hasn't signed off.

RESULT 01

Central island reads as one continuous brand artwork from any sightline on the retail floor — column and ceiling disc never feel like two separate screens.

RESULT 02

Flexible P1.8 wrap delivered the 360° cylinder with no visible cabinet steps — the seam discipline is the headline result for this build.

RESULT 03

Operating brightness held at 600 nits keeps colour accurate against the architectural cream finish and keeps surface temperature inside retail-acceptable range above the cashier line.

RESULT 04

Single content canvas across two surfaces means Sapphire’s creative team authors one file per campaign — no double-export workflow, no synchronisation drift between surfaces.

RESULT 05

Hand-over included on-site spare modules and a documented service-access plan so a single failed module can be swapped in under 15 minutes without closing the cashier line.

Project FAQs

Specific questions answered for this project.

  • A 360° cylindrical column needs the LED surface to follow the curve continuously — standard rigid cabinets would leave visible seam steps at every facet. Flexible P1.8 modules conform to the curve and align edge-to-edge with sub-millimetre tolerance, so the finished surface reads as one continuous cylinder rather than a multi-faceted column.
